They may be full of typing and grammatical errors, I want to beg your pardon for this.  I reserve the right to change individual parts or the book and design in its entity. And please be patient until this book will be finished.

The book is a full compendium about the concepts and methods around building EDI interfaces from and to SAP R/3. It decribes how the SAP precoded EDI solutions are implemented and how an ABAP developer can adapt create own solutions. It covers also the related concepts of printing with SAPscript and the SAP R/3 solutions to trigger EDI and SAPscript e.g. NAST message control and workflow event coupling. A 99 minutes guide to ABAP IV is enclosed for experienced developers who work in other languages like C++, PASCAL or VisualBasic in order to get acquainted to the power of ABAP IV.

Why A Cookbook

This book lives in the tradition of IT cookbbooks. It is consequently built around recipes, which shall show a programmer successful solutions in interface writing. We are leaving in a fast paced world. This book responds to the need of any programmer to produce quick and reliable results. Recipes should enable a skilled programmer to write one interface in one single day, saving time and costs.

Who should read this book..

This book wants to give answers. Answers to frequently asked questions by programmers, who start a new SAP interface development. So this book is written by developers for developers and SAP consultants with programming experience.  Due to the nature of EDI it is more important that you know the Art of Computer programming, rather than to many details of the SAP system to understand this book. Therefore this book requires no special knowledge of SAPīs ABAP language and with the aid of the included 99 minutes guide to ABAP, you should be able to understand the examples in this book, provided you have profound experience in programming in any 3rd or 4th generation programming language.
